Retinal Tomograph (HRT)
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve causing progressive loss
of nerve tissue and visual loss. Treatments are aimed at slowing
this progressive visual loss. For many years the only way progression
was monitored was subjective clinical examination by a physician.
While physician examination is still crucial to glaucoma treatment,
the HRT has given our physicians an objective testing measure
to follow glaucoma progression. HRT is the only advanced imaging
device to quantitatively measure the three vital structures, cup,
rim, and retinal nerve fiber layer, needed to make a complete
assessment of glaucoma. This is important because damage can be
detected at one or more of these locations depending on individual
patient anatomy and susceptibility.
If clinically indicated, your physician will monitor your optic
nerve using this state of the art technology.

Non-Mydriatic
Fundus Photography
Fifth Avenue Eye Associates is now equipped with state of the
art non-mydriatic digital fundus photography.
This allows us to take archived digital images of a person’s
retina and optic nerve allowing us to better follow conditions
such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy,
choroidal nevi (freckles in the back of the eye) as well as inherited
retinal and optic nerve conditions. Having such imaging readily
available allows us to better follow stability of eye conditions
and allows us to treat people with more certainty.
